Q

How can timing be a barrier to effective communication?

A

The message may be sent at the wrong time. For example, a person who is in a rush to leave work may not listen carefully to the manager.

Q

How can clarity be a barrier to effective communication?

A

The sender may not make the message clear to the receiver. This may be because the sender uses language that the receiver does not understand, or assumes that the receiver knows more than he/she does

Q

How can the attitudes of the sender or receiver be a barrier to effective communication?

A

The sender may ‘talk down’ to the receiver so that he/she does not like what they hear. The receiver may not trust or respect the sender and so does not take notice of what is said

Q

How can the feedback not being received or being not appropriate be a barrier to effective communication?

A

The sender may not check with the receiver that they have understood the message. The sender might ask the receivers of a message to give feedback in writing. This would not be suitable if people do not want to put their feelings or ideas down on paper.
