Name a disadvantage of fear as a motivation technique

How does fear motive people to work?
Using threats so people are scared of them
People do their job so they’re not punished

What is job rotation?
Moving employees into different roles
Usually preformed on production lines work so people don’t get bored with their job
Only works with jobs that do not require a lot of skill
What is job enlargement?
Workers having some different roles to do as well as their own current work. The workers do not have any extra responcibility but gain more skills.
What is the difference between job enlargement and job enrichment?
Enrichment gives the worker more responcibilities and may need training rather than only gaining skills.
explain team working and how it benefits a business
putting people into teams makes people want to succeed because they dont want to disappoint their team
roles can be split so people are doing what they’re good at which means the business has higher quality products.
what do award schemes do? and give an example
improves the self-esteem of employees
gives employees aspirations
example- employee of the month
How does promotion work?
the possibility of moving up the business motivates people to work harder
How does the work enviroment affect motivation? and name some changes that could be made
If workers are comfortable then they are more likely to do better work changes- music open-plan offices staff rest areas
What are the 3 types of leadership?
autocratic
democratic
laissez faire
What is an autocratic leader?
a leader who will make all the decisions with little or no discussion with other employees
What is laissez-faire leadership?
when the leader will decide the main outcomes but the workers choose how they preform their roles
What is a democratic leader?
a leader that discusses decisions with their staff

what is time rate?
the worker is paid a set sum of money for each hour worked
What is a disadvantge to time rate?
gives no reward for quality of work so quality of product may be low
may require a clock on clock off system- costs money
What is overtime pay? and why might it be used?
the time rate may be increased to encourage workers to work extra hours above their normal working week. It is used to meet demand in busy periods e.g. christmas
What is a salary and who are they used on?
a firm agrees to pay a worker an amount of money per year, divided into 12 monthly payments.
it is used for people where their work is difficult to measure and they have a high level of responsibility
what is piece rate? and where is it mainly done?
where productivity id measured e.g. a factory
the worker gets paid a sum of money for each item they complete
What are the disadvantages of piece rate?
workers rush their work which lead to high waste higher costs poor quality damage to the reputation of the business
what is commission?
paid to workers to sell goods, it is an amount of a sale given to the seller
