Composites Flashcards
(10 cards)
What is a composite material?
A composite is a material composed of two or more different materials resulting in a material with enhanced properties.
What is Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastics?
Carbon fibres mixed with polyester resin.
What is Glass Reinforced Plastics?
Glass fibres mixed with polyester resin.
What is Medium Density Fibreboard?
Compressed wood fibres mixed with urea formaldehyde.
What is Hardboard?
Compressed wood fibres.
What is Chipboard?
Wood chips compressed with urea formaldehyde.
What is Plywood?
Thin layers at 90°, compressed with urea formaldehyde.
What are the properties of CRP/GRP
Lightweight, corrosion resistant, tough, hard, good compressive strength, low thermal expansion.
What are some uses of composite materials?
Sports: bike frames, tennis racquets, boat hulls, car bodies, furniture, structural work, shelving.
