Control Systems Flashcards
(8 cards)
What are control systems
How plants respond to their environments when there is a change, this is called stimulus.
Tropism is a kind of response plants have to stimulus
What are a few kinds of stimulus
Temperature
Chemicals
Water
Touch
Length of daylight hours
Light
Gravity
What is phototropism and its 2 types
A plants response to light
Two types are:
Positive
Negative
What is POSITIVE phototropism
Where a plant grows towards the light
example: leaves, stems, flowers
What is auxin and what is it used in
A hormone that promotes cell growth, it occurs in positive phototropism
What is NEGATIVE phototropism
Growth away from the light
example: roots
What is gravitropism and its 2 types
A plants response to gravity
2 types are:
Positive
Negative
What is the difference between positive and negative gravitropism
Positive - growth in the same direction as gravity (ex: roots)
Negative - growth in the opposite direction of gravity (ex: stem)
