correlation Flashcards
(9 cards)
what is correlational analysis
to investigate a link between two measured variables
what must the data be in a correlation
numerical and must exist over a range
what are the variables called in a correlation
co-variables
what is a causal relationship
when there is a change in one due to a change in the other
what is a positive correlation
when a relationship between two variables increase together
what is a negative correlation
when one variables increases and the other decreases
what is a scattergraph
a graph used to display the data from a correlational study
draw out a graph for a postive/negative correlation, strong positive/negative correlation, weak positive/negative correlation and no correlation
should have
–> scatter graph
–> line of best fit
–> dots either going up or down depending on conditions
strengths and weaknesses of correlations analysis
strengths: can do studies where you can’t manipulate variables but can measure them
weaknesses: can’t for definite indicate if their is a cause and effect
