È mattina presto, e una volpe cammina attraverso il bosco.
It is early morning, and a fox is walking through the woods
Ha fame e sta cercando qualcosa da mangiare.
She is hungry and looking for something to eat.
Vede un corvo seduto sul ramo più alto di un albero.
She sees a crow sitting on the highest branch of a tree.
. Il corvo stringe un pezzo di formaggio nel becco.
The crow holds a piece of cheese in its beak.
“Gnam… quanto mi piace il formaggio!” pensa la volpe
“Yummm… How (much) I love cheese!” thinks the fox.
“Ho trovato la colazione! Ma come faccio a farmi dare quel formaggio?”
I have found my breakfast!But how do I get that cheese?”
La volpe pensa e ripensa. Poi le viene in mente un’idea brillante
The fox thinks and thinks. (Literally:thinks and rethinks — A common expression) Then a brilliant idea comes to her
Lo farò parlare!”
“I will make him talk!”
La volpe si siede ai piedi dell’albero e guarda il corvo.
The fox sits at the foot of the tree and looks at the crow.
“Buongiorno, signor Corvo!” dice. “Che bella giornata, eh?”
“Good morning, Mister Crow!” she says. “What a beautiful day, huh?”
Il corvo guarda la volpe senza dire niente.
The crow looks at the fox without saying anything.

“Ho detto buon giorno!” dice la volpe.
“I said good morning!” says the fox.
Mi hai sentito? Forse da lassù non riesci a sentirmi…”
“Did you hear me? Maybe up there you can’t hear me…”
Il corvo è sospettoso. Stringe il formaggio con forza nel becco e non risponde.
The crow is suspicious. He holds the cheese firmly (with strength) in his beak and doesn’t respond.
“Mmm. È difficile,” pensa la volpe. Ma non si arrende. Sorride al corvo.
“Hmm. This is difficult,” thinks the fox. But she doesn’t give up. She smiles at the crow.
“Sai, sei un volatile bellissimo,” dice la volpe.
“You know, you are a beautiful bird,” says the fox. “
“Le tue piume sono così scintillanti. I tuoi occhi sono così luminosi.
“Your feathers are so sparkly. Your eyes are so bright.
Il tuo becco è così… uhm… affilato. Sei perfetto, in tutto e per tutto.”
Your beak is so… uh… sharp. You’re perfect, all in all
Il corvo continua a non dire niente.
The crow continues to say nothing.
Al che la volpe dice: “Signor Corvo, la tua voce è tanto magnifica quanto te?
To which the fox says: “Mister Crow, is your voice as magnificent as you are?
Ho sentito che hai una voce meravigliosa. Per favore, canta per me.
Ho sentito che hai una voce meravigliosa. Per favore, canta per me.
Giusto una canzone.
Giusto una canzone.
Poi racconterò a tutti che sei l’uccello più incredibile di tutti — il re di tutti i volatili!”
