What is Space?
Distance which separates places, can be both real or perceived, does not have meaning.
What is Place?
A space with meaning, whether objective or subjective meaning.
What are some Place Characteristics?
Demographic, Socio-economic, Cultural, Political, Built Environment, Natural Environment.
What is Place Profile?
Place characteristics that are grouped under different categories (e.g. demographic profile).
What is Perception of Place?
The way in which place is viewed or regarded by people. This is typically influenced by representations of the place or through personal experience.
What is Sense of Place?
Subjective or emotional attachment people have to a place, through people’s experience and knowledge of the place.
What is Place Meaning?
The significance, value or issues which make a place important for both personal and shared meanings.
What is Place Identity?
The overall impression of a place which makes it distinctive to other places; informed by multiple place characteristics.
