A
No. deaths per 1000 people per year.

A
1900 - 19 but by 2012 it had halved to 8.6. Rose slightly in 1930s and 1940s - period of great economic depressions and world wars.

3/4 of decline was due to a fall in no. from infectious diseases. They were common in young and there has been a decline in the young.

A
‘Diseases of affluence’ which were heart diseases and cancer. Affected middle age more than young.

A
Population began to develop natural resistance or some diseases became less powerful.
