PUBLIC SERVICES: What types of old people take up these services?

A

More of the ‘old old’ (defined as 75 or over) than the ‘young old’ (65-74). However, should be aware of ‘over-generalising’ as many people remain in relatively good health in their old age.

DEPENDENCY RATIO: How does the number of retired people affect it?

A

As they rise, it increases the dependency ratio and consequently the burden on the working population. 2015 there was 3.2 people of working age for every 1 pensioner. This predicted to fall by to 3.8 to 1 by 2033.
