Q

What is digestion

A

The breakdown of large insoluble molecules. It’s a small soluble molecules, so they can be absorbed for use by the body cells.

Q

Denaturation

A

Enzymes react best at their optimum temperature. This is where the rate of reaction is highest when an enzyme becomes denatured. The shape of the active site will change. Therefore the substrate will not be able to bind to the active site and no product will be released. it can never return back to its original shape.

Q

How do we test for starch?

A

In the presence of starch iodine solution will change colour from brown to blue/black. If there is no starch found the solution will stay brown.

Q

Test for sugar (glucose)

A

If glucose is present, Benedict reagent will change the colour from blue to green to yellow and eventually brick red.
( in contrast to other food test, it must be heated above 95°)
