What is the job of the digestive system?
Breaks down food, absorbs nutrients, and removes waste.
Where does digestion start?
In the mouth.
What is the name of the long tube from mouth to anus?
Alimentary canal.
What moves food through the digestive tract?
Peristalsis (muscle contractions).
What is the job of the stomach?
Mixes food and breaks it down with acid.
What is the small intestine for?
Absorbs most nutrients.
What is the large intestine for?
Absorbs water and forms poop (feces).
What does the liver do?
Makes bile and helps clean the blood.
What does the gallbladder do?
Stores bile.
What does the pancreas do?
Helps digest food and controls blood sugar.
What is bile used for?
Helps break down fats.
What organ stores solid waste before it leaves the body?
Rectum.
Where does poop leave the body?
Anus.
What is constipation?
Trouble pooping.
What is diarrhea?
Watery poop that happens too often.
What is GERD?
Acid from the stomach comes back up into the throat (acid reflux).
What is appendicitis?
A swollen appendix — needs surgery fast.
What is hepatitis?
A virus that affects the liver.
What is cirrhosis?
Liver damage (often from alcohol).
What is a colonoscopy?
A test where a doctor checks the colon with a camera.
