What are the main organs of the urinary system?
Kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra.
What is the main function of the kidneys?
Filter blood, remove waste, balance fluids, and regulate electrolytes.
What is urine made of?
Water, urea, creatinine, and other waste products.
What tube carries urine from the kidneys to the bladder?
Ureters.
What organ stores urine?
The bladder.
What is the urethra’s function?
It carries urine from the bladder to the outside of the body.
What is the functional unit of the kidney?
Nephron.
What are the 3 main processes in urine formation?
Filtration, reabsorption, secretion.
What hormone helps control urine concentration?
Antidiuretic hormone (ADH).
What does a urinalysis test for?
Color, clarity, pH, glucose, protein, ketones, blood, bacteria.
What condition is caused by a kidney stone blocking urine flow?
Hydronephrosis.
What is cystitis?
Inflammation of the bladder, usually from infection (UTI).
What is the glomerulus?
A network of capillaries in the nephron where blood filtration begins.
What is the name of the tube used for catheterization?
Foley catheter (or urinary catheter).
What is the medical term for painful urination?
Dysuria.
