Reasons for the spread of disease
Expansion diffusion
The disease has a source and spreads outwards into new areas. The source area remains infected
Relocation diffusion
The disease leaves the area of origin and moves into new areas
Contagious diffusion
The spread is through direct contact with a carrier
Hierarchical diffusion
Disease spreads through a structured sequence of locations, usually from large, well-connected centres to smaller, more isolated centres
Disease diffusion
The process by which a disease spreads outwards beyond its geographical source
