Draping Flashcards
(11 cards)
Draping for UE
- patient supine
- pillow under head and knees
- roll under achilles to prevent excessive pressure on heels
- sheet on top
draping for LE in supine
cover them with LE exposed
areas that are subject to the greatest pressure with prolonged time in supine
- external occipital protuberance
- thoracic spine and inferior angle of scapula
- PSIS
- sacrum
- posterior calcanei
Possible contracture sites in supine
- knee flexion with extensive use of rolls under knees
- hip external rotation if legs allowed to roll out without support
draping in prone
- pillow under pelvis and hips to decrease lumbar stress
- roll under anterior ankles to prevent excessive ankle plantar flexion
- small roll under forehead or head turned to side
- upper quarter exposed
areas subject to greatest pressure in prone
- forehead
- anterior humeral head and tip of the acromion process
- especially if patient has forward shoulders
- ASIS
- patella and crest of tibia
- dorsum of foot
possible contracture sites in prone
- knee flexion with extensive use of rolls under ankles
- plantar flexion contracture if no rolls placed under the knees
positioning and draping in sidelying
- pillow under head to keep C spine in neutral
- pillow between knees and ankles to prevent excessive pressure
- pillow in anterior thorax region to position hand
areas subject to greatest pressure with prolonged time in sidelying
- lateral aspect of head
- lateral acromion
- medial or lateral epicondyles of humerus
- greater trochanter of femur
- lateral malleolus
possible contracture sites with patient in sidelying
hip adduction contracture if pillow isn’t placed between the knees
areas subject to greatest pressure with patient in sitting
- Ischial tuberosity
- posterior thigh
