Q
Sharp dull tests for
A
integrity of the anterolateral/ ventral trigeminothalamic tract
4
Q
performing a sharp-dull test
A
- patient supine or sitting with eyes closed
- test intact area FIRST
- use sharp and dull sides randomly and have patient state which they believe is which
- compare to contralateral side or other sites (discrimination)
5
Q
Temperature/thermal testing tests for the integrity of
A
the anterolateral system/ ventral tigeminothalamic tract
6
Q
performing the temperature/thermal testing
A
- patient supine or sitting with eyes closed
- test intact area first
- use consistent pattern
- use hot and cold tap water in dry test tubes of same size
- apply with same pressure in random presentation
ask patient to identify - compare to contralateral side or other sites for discrimination
7
Q
light touch tests assess for integrity of…
A
the dorsal column- ML tract/ Trigeminal Lemniscus
8
Q
performing a light touch test
A
- with patient sitting or in supine with eyes closed
- use finger tip, wisp of cottong or brush to touch
- ask patient to identify when you touch them and where you touch them
- compare to other sites
9
Q
Joint position sense
A
- patient supine with eyes closed and completely relaxed
- grasp with minimal contact side of bdy part to be moved
- randomly move body part through small degrees of motion
- then ask them up or down when you move the limb
- repeat 6-7 times and compare sides
10
Q
Romberg test
A
- stand with feet together, UE at side, head facing forward, eyes open
- test again with eyes closed
11
Q
normal Romberg test
A
no sway should occur
12
Q
abnormal romberg test
A
patient is okay with their eyes open but sways/falls with eyes closed
- positive for dorsal column lesion
13
Q
grading for DTR
A
4+ very very brisk response- usually associated with clonus 3+ very brisk, stronger than normal 2+ normal response 1+ suppressed or dampened response 0 no response
