What are Sociological reasons for drug taking?
win at all costs attitude in sport. Fame and fortune attached to winning and success at elite level. High levels of pressure to win from a variety of sources. Lack of deterrents. Belief they can get away with it. Poor role models. Drug taking viewed as acceptable.
What are psychological reasons for taking drugs?
Beta blockers used to steady nerves where fine motor skill is required. Anabolic steroids used to increase aggression in high contact sports. Stimulates can be used to bolster athletes suffering from a lack of confidence.
What are positive and negative implications to the sport of drug taking?
Threatens the spirit of sport. It is cheating impacts reputation, strong association of drug taking in certain sports eg cycling. Clouds success
