What are World Class Performance Programmes
Uk sport had developed a funding philosophy that reflects the potentially long journey athletes can take before reaching the top. This works on the basis of two clear, distinct levels which make up the World class pathway for individual on the WCPP: Podium, Podium potential.
What is the Podium stage?
Designed to support athletes with realistic medal-winning potential at the next olympic/paralympics. UK athletics like other NGB’s receive funding from UK sport and National Lottery which enables them to offer financial support to a selected group of performers in sport via the WCPP
What is Podium Potential?
Designed to support athletes whose performance suggests that they have realistic medal winning capabilities at subsequent olympic/Paralympic Games
What is beneath Podium Potential?
Is a further level known as ‘talent’ which provides funding to and support to identity and confirm athletes who have potential to progress onto the WCPP. The future programme’ in place for British athletics underpins the WCPP and was designed to provide financial and medical to support to athletes typically aged 17-20 and their coaches.
What is the Gold Event series ?
UK sport is the lead agency trying to ensure the UK successfully bids to host and stage major sporting events. They have a flagship programme called the gold event series which is working hard to bring 100 targeted major international sporting events to the UK during the 10 years it is operating. Development to help NGBs attract and stage important events. £27 million of national lottery funding.
What are UK Sports aims of staging events?
