what are the eight wastes
Use Tim woods.
Transportation, inventory, motion, waiting, over production, overprocessing, defects, skills.
define transportation
This waste refers to unnecessary movement of materials or products.Example: A
factory that requires workers to transport parts across long distances instead of having
them located closer to the assembly line
define inventory
Excess inventory can tie up capital and lead to obsolescence. Example: A retail store
holding large quantities of unsold merchandise that could have been ordered based
on demand.
define Motion
Unnecessary movements by people that do not add value to the product.Example:
Employees frequently walking back and forth to retrieve tools or materials that are not
organised efficiently
define waiting
Idle time when resources are not being utilised effectively. Example: A
production line that halts because one machine is down, causing workers to wait for
repairs.
define overproduction
Producing more than what is needed or before it is needed. Example: A bakery making
more bread than it can sell in a day, leading to waste
define overprocessing
Performing more work or using more components than necessary.Example: A software
development team adding unnecessary features that do not enhance user experience.
define defects
Errors or flaws in products that require rework or scrapping.Example: A manufacturer
producing faulty parts that must be discarded or repaired, incurring additional costs.
define skills
Underutilising employees’ skills and talents. Example: A highly skilled technician
performing simple tasks that do not leverage their expertise.
