Encapsulation and Decapsulation (obj 1.1) Flashcards
(11 cards)
Encapsulation
The process of putting headers (and trailers) around some data.
FIN (Finished)
Used to tear down the virtual connections created using the three-wey handshake and the SYN flag.
SYN (Synchronization)
Used to synchronize connection during the three-way hadnshake.
ACK (Acknowledgment)
Used during the three-way handshake, but also used to acknowledge the successfull receipt of packets.
PSH (Push)
Used to ensure data is given priority and is processed at the sending or receiving ends.,
URG (Urgent)
Similiar to PSH and identifies incoming data as urgent.
Mac Address
Physical address that is used to identify a network card on a local area network.
EtherType
Used to indicate which protocol is encapsulated in the payload of a frame.
RST (Reset)
Used when a client or server receives a packet that it was not expecting during the current connection.
Protocol Data Unit (PDU)
Network packet encapsulating a data payload from an upper layer protocol with header fields used at the current layer.
The chunk of data that has a header and is sent between the sending/receiving nodes.
The sender encapsulates while the receiver decapsulates
Addressing
Describes where data messages should go
