Engine Flashcards

1
Q

With standby engine indicator in AUTO, when will it turn on?

A
  • AC power is lost
  • Either CRT failed and STATUS selected on the ground

Q

When does “X-BLD” indication on N2 (secondary EICAS) display?

A

Indicates cross bleed start recommended for inflight start. The in-flight start envelope is displayed and airspeed is lower than that for a windmilling start.

Q

When will In-Flight start envelope display?

A

Displays for the closest starting flight level and two descending levels at 2000’ intervals when respective fire switch is IN and:

  • FUEL CONTROL switch is in CUT OFF, and
  • engine N2 RPM is below idle, and
  • primary and secondary EICAS displayed

Q

Engine start selector - AUTO

A

From GND mode, switches to AUTO at 50% N2 RPM.

  • Closes start valve and terminates ignition (“VALVE” fault light illuminates if N2 RPM exceeds 50% and starter valve open)
  • Selected igniter operates continuously with LE slats, TE flaps, or engine anti-ice ON.

Q

Engine start selector - GND

A

Must be manually selected (push in and rotate).

  • Opens start valve to supply air
  • Engages air driven starter to N2 rotor
  • Closes engine bleed air valve if it is open
  • Magnetically held in GND nitl 50% N2 RPM

Q

Engine start sequence

A
  1. Push in and rotate start selector to GND
  2. VALVE light illuminates, L or R ENG STARTER msg
  3. At N2 max motoring RPM or 20% N2, position fuel control to RUN
    - Minimum N2 for selecting RUN indicated by magenta bug on N2 display
  4. Fuel control to RUN opens spar and engine fuel valves and activates selected ignition
  5. At approximately 50% N2, start selector automatically snaps to AUTO (audible), start valve closes, and engine stabilizes at idle

16
Q

What provides heating for fuel system?

A

Engine/oil heat exchanger

17
Q

Where is oil temperature taken from?

A

Measured after leaving the scavenge pump (post-engine), prior to entering second filter.

18
Q

How is thrust reverse actuated (CF6-80C2B6F)?

A

Pneumatic.

Electromechanical lock prevents uncommanded deployment.
