What are the 4 phases of the basic steam cycle?
Generation, Expansion, Condensation and Feed
What process converts feed water into steam in the boiler?
Generation
What type of steam does the boilers produce?
600 main steam
600 auxiliary steam
Which steam goes to the main engine and the SSTG?
Main steam
What does SSTG stand for?
Ships Service Turbine Generator
What type of steam goes to the auxiliary equipment?
600 auxiliary steam
What process converts thermal energy into mechanical energy by using the main engine and the SSTGs?
Expansion
What process converts steam into liquid which is called condensate by using the main condesner?
Condensation
This is stored in the hotwell then the condensate pumps takes suction from the hotwell passes through the air ejects
Condensate
Converts condensate into ** using the following equipment: air ejectors, first stage feed heater and the DFT
Feed
What are the four phases of basic refrigeration cycle?
Compressor, condenser, thermal expansion valve and evaporators
Low pressure/low temperature refrigerant vapor coming from the evaporator into high pressure/high temperature refrigerant gas is what phase of the refrigeration cycle?
Compressor
High pressure/high temperature refrigerant gas coming from the compressor goes into the top of the condenser (which is a shell tube condenser 2 way pass) and gets condensed by the cooling medium which is auxiliary machinery cooling water is what phase of the refrigeration cycle?
Condenser
What meters the flow of refrigerant and at the same time expands the high pressure/high temperature liquid refrigerant into low pressure/low temperature refrigerant mix going into the evaporator?
TXV (Thermal Expansion Valve)
Starts at the outlet of the thermal expansion valve and ends in the suction of the compressor
Refrigeration cycle low side
Starts in the compressor discharge and ends in the inlet side of the thermal expansion valve
Refrigeration cycle high side
What are the three purposes of the DFT (Deaerate Feed Tank)?
Stores, preheats, and deaerates feed water
How many DFT’s are onboard?
2 DFT’s
NO. 1 DFT = AFT MMR
NO. 2 DFT = FWD MMR
How many boilers are onboard?
2
Where are the boilers located?
NO. 1 = AFT Main Machinery
NO. 2 FWD Main Machinery
What type of boiler do we have on board?
D type 600lb modified to 700lb
What is the reason why it is called a D-type boiler?
The tubes on the fire side are shaped like a D
Why is the boiler called 600lb?
It produces 600 main steam from the super heater and 600 auxiliary steam from the desuperheater
What are the components of the boiler?
Steam drum, water drum and downcomers
