Q

Steps of petersons capture recapture

A

Take a representative sample of the population and tag or mark each subject and release them back into the population
Wait for them to mix back in and take a second representative sample
Count the number in the second sample that were tagged
Use the formulae N = Mn/ m
First sample x second sample / tagged

Q

Where does capture recapture only work

A

In constant populations (made of exactly the same members when both samples were take)
No births
Deaths
Or migration

Q

What do you assume when doing capture recapture

A

The second sample is perfectly representative of the whole population
The capture and recapture are completely random
Are unaffected by the capture or the tagging and marking
The sample size taken was large enough
