Advantages of interview

A

Can ask more complex questions in the interview - because you can explain what it means
Face-to-face interviews usually have a higher response rate - if you’re asking a patient questions it’s harder than to ignore you
Do you know the right person answer the questions - The questionnaire is sent out anyone could fill-in
You can follow answers to questions if you think more information is needed

Disadvantages of interviews

A

Face-to-face interviews can take a long time to carry out
Interviewing me expensive - you have to employ interviews and travel long distances
It’s hard to get answers from a geographically spread out sample
Interviewers are more likely to lie - if asked a sensitive question face-to-face
The answers could be recorded in a biased way - could be by accident or deliberate if the interview has strong views on the subject
