Deception
a researcher gives false information to subjects or intentionally misleads them about some key aspect of the research
Right to withdraw
an individual who initially agrees to participate in a study has the right to withdraw from the study at any point and the right to refuse to answer any particular question or participate in a particular set of procedures
Informed consent
Consent should be obtained before the participant enters the research and there must be no undue influence on participants to consent
Protection from physical & Psychological harm
Investigators have a primary responsibility to protect participants from physical and mental harm during the investigation
Social sensitivity
research that has potentially negative consequences for those involved
Confidentiality & anonymity
use of password protected files, encryption when sending information over the internet, and even old-fashioned locked doors and drawers
Storage of personal data
must ensure that personal data are kept secure and are not disclosed to unauthorised persons, use a locked storage container such as a filing cabinet in a locked office for paper-based personal data; for digital data, password-protected or, preferably, encrypted storage
