Medical examiner in the death certification processes role
communicates with the bereaved family for clarification and feedback
decides whethere the case should be referred to the coroner
some examples of mandatort referrals to the coroners
- sudden or unexpectd death
- deaths within 30 days of medical procedure
- death in prison
- death to self neglect
– occupationsal eg asbestosis, mesothelioma
when completing death certificate - ticking old age is only acceptable if at least
80y/o
in death certificate cannot just put organ failure eg lvier failure
need to specify the disease or conditin that lead to the organ failure
should be repoted to coroner if doctor attending the deceased did not see them within
28days before death
need to see coroner if
death occurs within 24hrs of hospital admission, accidents and injuried, suicide, neglect, ilict drugs, still birth, prisoner
