They found that they were ignored and not given a change to answer questions or unfairly picked and/or punished.

Leads to low self esteem and self-fulfilling prophecy of failure
What is the effect of language barriers in education?
- heavy accented students are more likely to be penialised in class
- less likely to succeed in English based subjects or any at all
- ethnic students who don’t know the language will struggle significently more
How do teacher expectations effect black students?
Teachers don’t see black students as likely academic successes and so likely to be places in lower sets and denied opportunities for help or to study
How does racism effect students in schools?
- minority etnic groups reported rudeness/abuse due to their ethnicity
- lowers self-esteem and makes schools a disressing place
- traveller/gypsy girls experience bullying and harrassment in schools
Why is material deprivation likely to be effected by ethnicity?
Minority ethnic groups are more likely than white poeple to live in low income households which are over-crowded

Black Carabbean, Pakastani and Bangladeshi people are most likely to be unemployed and live in the poorest areas with social problems.
