A

language used between friends or family members, informal, simple, everyday language. (slang)
used by both middle class and working class but Bernsetin argued lower-working class are limited to it.

What is Bernsteins’ elaborated codes?

A

language used by stangers and individuals in formal context, where explaination and details are needed
e.g. teachers, interviewers, writing business letters, writing essays
It gives the middle-class students an advantage at school due to the understanding of textbooks, writing essays and exam answers, class discussions.
Middle class students used to elaborated code will dind school work easier and learn more than working class students
