A320 Ditching Emergency Evacuation Demonstration (F/A-A; L1)
Scenario: “You are Lead F/A on an A320. The cabin has been prepared for a ditching. Please don your life vest, then take your jumpseat, conduct your silent review and let me know when you are ready. The drill will begin upon hearing the command, “BRACE, BRACE, BRACE.”
Action:
1. Don life vest (retrieve from under jumpseat) and assume the correct brace position:
• lap belt and shoulder harness secured low and tight.
• feet flat on floor shoulder width apart.
• hands placed on thighs, palms down.
• head pressed back against the headrest.
- Shout: “HEADS DOWN! STAY DOWN!” until given signal to evacuate.
- Upon hearing the aural alert and/or “EVACUATE, EVACUATE, EVACUATE!” release lap belt and shoulder harness, get up immediately and shout: “GET LIFE VEST! PUT IT ON!”
- After initial command, begin and continue to shout “LEAVE EVERYTHING! OPEN SEATBELTS! GET OUT!”
- Lift the cover and press the EMER button then press EVAC RESET button.
- Assess conditions at the primary exit by looking out the window and feeling the exit with the back of hands for heat.
- Secure self with appropriate assist handle attached to the fuselage.
- Open the door by lifting the door control handle fully upward (palm up or down is acceptable) and release the door control handle immediately.
- Continue to secure self while performing the following:
• Pull the red manual inflation handle.
• Once the raft is fully inflated (inflation sound has stopped), point at and instruct first Guest who
approaches exit to –
“INFLATE VEST, GET OUT! GET OUT!”
• Continue shouting “GET OUT!” and use situational commands as needed. - Continue evacuation by shouting commands and using appropriate situational commands in response to circumstances presented by the Instructor until instructed to stop the drill.
** Instructor will ask: “All Guests have either evacuated or it’s no longer safe to remain on board. What should you do now?”**
- Flight Attendant answers: “I will inflate my life vest and exit the aircraft” (simulates inflation of life vest by pulling down on red tab)”
Note: this is a coaching conversation with the instructor is not part of the tested drill.
A321 Land Emergency Evacuation Demonstration (F/A-B; L2/R2)
Scenario: “You are F/A-B on an A321. The cabin has been prepared for a ground emergency landing. One of your exits is blocked. Please take your jumpseat, conduct your silent review and let me know when you are ready. The drill will begin upon hearing the command, “BRACE, BRACE, BRACE.”
Action:
- Assume the correct brace position:
• lap belt and shoulder harness secured low and tight.
• feet flat on floor shoulder width apart.
• hands placed on thighs, palms down.
• head pressed back against the headrest. - Shout “HEADS DOWN! STAY DOWN!” until the command “Flight Attendant Stations” is given.
- Upon hearing “Flight Attendant Stations” release lap belt and shoulder harness and remain seated while visually assessing conditions both inside and outside the aircraft.
- Upon hearing the aural alert and/or “EVACUATE, EVACUATE, EVACUATE” get up immediately and begin shouting and continue to shout: “LEAVE EVERYTHING! OPEN SEATBELTS! GET OUT!”
- Press the EVAC RESET button.
- Assess conditions at the primary exit by looking out the window and feeling the exit with the back of hands for heat.
- Secure self with appropriate assist handle attached to the fuselage.
- Open the door by lifting the door control handle fully upward (palm up or down is acceptable) and release the door control handle immediately (the door will hesitate 4 to 6 seconds while the slide inflates and then it will move forward to the open position).
- Continue to secure self while performing the following:
• Immediately remove the plastic cover and pull the red manual inflation handle before the door fully opens.
• Once the exit is usable, begin shouting and continue to shout: JUMP, SLIDE! JUMP, SLIDE!” - Once evacuation flow has been established through the primary exit, proceed to the alternate exit or use situational commands as needed (while continuing to shout commands).
- (If necessary) Assess conditions at the alternate exit by looking out the window and feeling the exit with the back of hands for heat.
- Use situational commands as needed (direct Guest to useable exit if necessary).
- Relocate and secure self to a usable exit and continue evacuating out of a usable exit while shouting: “JUMP, SLIDE! JUMP, SLIDE!”
- Continue evacuation by shouting commands and using appropriate situational commands in response to circumstances presented by the Instructor until instructed to stop the drill.
