Main Cabin Door Exit Pre-Flight Check:
Scenario: “ what is the pre-flight check of a main cabin door exit?”

A

Action(verbally state & physically point out):

  1. Overall condition of the exit and viewing window
  2. All placards are in good condition and readable
  3. The SLIDE ARMED lever is in the DISARMED position
  4. The safety pin is inserted and locked in the disarmed safety pinhole and the red flag is present and in good condition.
  5. The Slide Pressure Gauge needle is in the green band (must physically check and verbally state).

Door Operation: ARM
Scenario: “You are the Lead F/A. Please arm the door.”

A

Action:
1. Verify the door locking indicator reads “LOCKED” and the viewing window is clear of any obstruction (must verbally state and physically point out).
2. Remove the Safety Pin by depressing the small inner button while pulling the pin out.
3. Arm the door by pushing the arming lever fully down until it is flush with the door.
4. Verify the letters RME on the arming lever placard are aligned with the letters A and D on the door placards to spell the word ARMED (verbally state and physically point out).
5. Verify the ARMED/DISARMED indicator window displays ARMED (verbally state and physically point out).

**REMEMBER: LOCK, LOOK, PIN, LEVER, PIN ***

  1. F/A conducts All Call PA: “Flight Attendants, arm doors for departure. Cross-check and all call.”

[Upon All Call, Instructor will arm R1 door. Instructor waits for Lead F/A to begin next step (cross-checking) before cross checking L1 door.]

  1. Cross-Check R1 door by physically walking to the R1 door and visually verifying the door is armed (arming lever safety pin has been removed/arming lever has been lowered to the “ARMED” position and is flush with the door/placarded word “ARMED” is clearly visible /door arming indication window reads “ARMED” in red)
    (verbally state and physically point out)
  2. Verbally confirm to other F/A (or Instructor) by stating “Confirming arming lever is down, door is armed.”
  3. Check FAP to ensure all doors show ARMED (verbally state and physically point out).

Door Operation: DISARM

Scenario: “You are the Lead F/A. The aircraft has blocked in, and the Fasten Seat Belt sign has been turned off. Please disarm the door.”

A

Action:
1. Raise Arming Lever fully upward to the DISARMED position.
2. Insert Arming Lever Safety Pin into disarmed hole adjacent to “ARMED/DISARMED” status indicator window.
3. Verify the letters RME on the Arming Lever are no longer aligned with the letters A and D on the Door Placard (must verbally state and physically point out).
4. Verify the ARMED/DISARMED indicator window displays DISARMED (verbally state and physically point out).

[Instructor states “Confirming arming lever is up and pin is inserted, door is disarmed.”]

[Instructor knocks (makes knocking sound). Flight Attendant must give a thumbs up in the viewing window.
Instructor then states: “GSA has opened the door.”]

  1. F/A conducts All Call PA: “Flight Attendants, disarm doors for arrival. Cross-check and all call.”

[Upon All Call, Instructor will disarm R1 door. Instructor waits for Lead FA to begin next step (cross-checking).]

  1. Cross-Check R1 door by physically walking to the R1 door and visually verifying the door is disarmed
    (Arming Lever has been raised to the disarmed position /the letters RME are no longer flush with the letters A and D on the Door Placard /Arming Lever Safety Pin has been inserted to prevent inadvertent arming of the door /door arming indication window reads “DISARMED” in green)
    (verbally state and physically point out).
  2. Verbally confirm to other F/A (or Instructor) by stating “Confirming arming lever is up and pin is inserted, door is disarmed.”
  3. Check FAP to ensure all doors show DISARMED (verbally state and physically point out).

Door Operation: OPEN
Scenario: “You are the Lead F/A. Please open the L1 door.”

A

Action:
1. Obtain Flight Crew permission to open the door (verbally state).
2. Check FAP to ensure L1 door shows DISARMED (verbally state and physically point out).
3. Confirm cross-check that L1 door is DISARMED by asking other F/A (Instructor) “Will you please verify my door is disarmed?”

NOTE: Another F/A must be present and must visually and verbally cross-check that the door is DISARMED before opening. Inflight Instructor will assume the role of the cross-checking F/A and state: “confirming arming lever is up and pin is inserted, door is disarmed”

Verbally state and physically point out the following:

Ensure the door is disarmed:

  1. Verify the word ARMED is interrupted (the letters are no longer in line).
  2. Confirm the ARMED/DISARMED indicator window displays the word DISARMED.
  3. Look out the viewing window to assess conditions and ensure it is safe to open door.
  4. Secure self by holding on with one hand to one of the Fuselage Assist Handles affixed to the aircraft fuselage.
  5. Obtain verbal confirmation from the other F/A (Instructor) that your door is disarmed, and the correct handle is about to be lifted.

F/A (Instructor) will verbally confirm, e.g. “Your door is disarmed, and that is the correct handle”

Proceed to door opening:
9. Lift the Door Control Handle up slowly and stop at 3 - 4 degrees (hand raising door control handle may be either palm up or palm down).
10. Check that the Slide Armed Indicator light is NOT illuminated!!
11. Continue to lift the handle upwards to its final raised position
While remaining secured to a fuselage assist handle, push the door outward and forward using the Door Assist Handle.
12. Ensure that the gust lock engages and the door locks in the fully open position (either pull on the door to ensure locked or state that an audible click is heard).

Door Operation: CLOSE
Scenario: “You are the Lead F/A. Please close the L1 door.”

A

Action:
1. Obtain Flight Crew permission to close the door (verbally state this).
2. Secure self by holding on with one hand to one of the Fuselage Assist Handles affixed to the aircraft fuselage.
3. Press the gust lock release button
While remaining secured to a fuselage assist handle, guide the door inward using either the door assist handle or door support arm.
4. When the door is almost closed, while remaining secured to a fuselage assist handle with one hand, use the door assist handle with the other hand and pull the door into the door frame (If the door support arm was used to pull
the door inward, you must release door support arm and grasp door assist handle).

When the door is completely pulled into its frame:
5. Release the fuselage assist handle.
6. Continue to hold the door assist handle and hold the door into the frame.
7. Grasp the door control handle and pull it firmly down to the fully closed position.
8. Ensure the door is fully locked by checking the door locking indicator displays LOCKED (must verbally state and physically point out, if necessary, use a flashlight).
