A320 Overwing Window Exit/A321 NEO Gull-Wing Exit Pre-Flight Check

Scenario: “What is the pre-flight of the OWE?” (or Gull-Wing Exit)

A

Action (verbally state and physically point out):

  1. Overall condition of the exit and viewing window.
  2. All placards and exit opening instructions are present, in good condition, and readable.
  3. The protective cover is fitted and the SLIDE ARMED indicator is not illuminated.

A320 Overwing Window Emergency Operation.

Scenario: “You are seated at the OWE, the flight makes an emergency landing, and you need to evacuate out of the OWE. Open the exit in emergency mode.”

A

Action:

  1. Assess conditions outside of OWE prior to opening (both visually and physically with the back of your hands).
  2. If safe to open, remove the protective cover over the operating handle and discard (ensure it does not block access to exit).
  3. Grasp the lower assist handle (palm up) with the hand closest to the fuselage.
  4. Grasp the operating handle (palm down) with the hand closest to the aisle.
  5. Pull downward on the operating handle and pivot OWE inward.
  6. Remove OWE using both hands and simulate throwing it outside the aircraft (verbally state FWD of the wing).
  7. Pull the manual inflation handle (upper portion of the window frame on the side closest to the white “Slide Armed” light).

A321NEO Gull-Wing Exit Emergency Operation

Scenario: “You are seated at the Gull-Wing exit, the flight makes an emergency landing, and you need to evacuate out of the Gull-Wing exit. Open the exit in emergency mode.”

A

Action:

  1. Assess conditions outside the aircraft prior to opening (both visually and physically with back of hands).
  2. If safe to open, remove the protective handle cover and discard (Ensure it does not block access to exit).
  3. With palm up or down, fully pull the operating handle downward and release.
  4. Pull the manual inflation handle (upper portion of the window frame on the side closest to the white “Slide Armed” light).
  5. Attach one end of the lifelines to the yellow bracket in the window frame.

NOTE: Instructor will provide lifeline and explain that other end attaches to the yellow attachment points on the wing.
