experimental design Flashcards
(7 cards)
independant groups
two sperate groups exp[erience seperate condoitions
matched pairs
participants paired up relevent to the variable eg on IQ
each pp does a different condition
repaeted measures
all participants experience both conditions
ig evaluation
the confounding variable of participant variables conflicts with the validity of the findings as the participants may have differences that impact the dv rather than the iv itself HOWEVER to deal with tjios resarchers use random allocation eg names in hat to evenly distrubute different charecteristics
matched pairs evaluation
+ order effects and demand charecteristics are less of a problem as only one condition completeted
- matching may be expensive and time consuming especially if a pre test is involved
rm evaluation
-order effects eg energy drink expeiment, there may be lasting effects from the first condition
HOWEVER counterbalancing can attempt to resolve the issue
each pp does each condition in an opposite order.
