pilot studies and procedures Flashcards
(3 cards)
what is a pilot study
a small scale trial run of the actual study
used in both experimental and observation research to draw out faults in coding or experimental design or to train up researchers and observers saves time and money in the long run as whole study doesnt have to be repeated and modified
single blind procedures
participants may not be told details like what condition of the experiment they are in or if there is another condition at all
provides control of confounding variables like demand characteristics or behaviours that stem from social desirability which corrupt the validity
double blind procedures
research designer is aware of aims and procedure but the researcher that is employed to conduct the reserach and the participant isnt
reduces investigator bias effects
used in drug trials bc researcher cant influence pps behaviour
