Bai Fan/Ming Fan (Alumen)

*dries damp resolves phlegm, alleviates itch, stops bleeding. dermatology
- resolves toxicity, dries dampness, kills parasites alleviates itch : for damp and DH scabies, tinea, rashes, external wash
- restrains and inhibits sores, generates flesh, transforms putrefaction:for toxins and external pathogenic factors collecting in skin, channels, collaterals, muscles
- stops bleeding, alleviates diarrhea for chronic diarrhea, bleeding, discharge. also by itself for topical bleeding for variety of reasons
- clears heat, expels phlegm: for wind phlegm delirium, convulsions, and throat phlegm
1-3g, really never in decoction (.6-.15)
c/c: sp xu, lack of DH. always caution if taking internally
side effects: can lead to hypokalemia (low Potassium) in high doses, vomiting, HA, dizzy, nausea, diarrhea, GI bleeding
Liu Huang (sulfur)
sour, hot, toxic

external: parasites, itch
internal: kd yang xu
- resolves toxicity, kills parasites, stops itching scabies, tinea, damp sores, ulcers, yin flat abscesses
*2. tonifies fire at gate of vitality strengthens yang fire reduces cold for KD yang xu and Cold constipation/diarrhea
c/i: pregnancy, yin xu w heat
do not use long term. do not use for heat diisorders
toxic orally in doses of 10-20g. side effects: dizzy, HA, n/v, abd pain, diarrhea, LBP, bloody stools, shock coma
She Chaung Zi (Cnidii Fructus)

internal warms Kd yang for fertility/cold womb
- dries damp, kills parasites, stops itch: topical for weeping itcchy skin, esp genitals. scabies, tinea
*2. disperses COLD, dispels WIND, drains DAMP: for vag discharge due to Kd cold damp and cold Ren/Du Mai
- warms kd and fortifies yang: for infertility, cold womb, kd yang xu
3-9g , 15-30g externally
c/c: do not take with insecure kd fire/jing

- resolves toxicity, expels wind, alleviates pain: topical for skin rash, itch, sores, carbuncles, gargle for tooth pain (“feeling as if worm if burrowing into tooth”)
- expels wind, dries damp, stops pain and itch: for WD bi/wind rash
- recently used for tumors
3-9g decoct. gargle=never swallow.
c/c: qi and xue xu without external xie
sores that have already burst, patients with impaired renal fx
antag: gan jiang, dan shen, shao yao, mu li
volatile oils can lead to kd failure. oils denatured during decoction
