  • april 1982 - 12,000 argentinian troops invaded islands - quickly took control
  • also attacked south georgia and south sandwich islands

  • received near universal support from public
  • britain sent task force of 100 ships and 28,000 troops to islands - 320km exclusion zone
  • conflict ended 14th june - argentina surrendered
