Why would you use multiple different control groups to analyze a case-control study?

A

To examine whether the results are sensitive to different control groups; if they are, there may be a systematic difference betweent the study group and the main control group

A

New onset (incident) cases; case-control studies are not good for studying prevalent disease

What kind of study would you use to answer the question “How often do complications occur after laproscopic surgery?”

A

A cohort study

Prospective: Patients who just underwent surgery

Retrospective: Go back in time to find patients who had surgery, look forward in their records to see if there were complications

(You can’t use a case-control study to find incidence of complications)
