Level 5 Leader

Refers to the highest level in a hierarchy of manager capabilities. Capable, contributing, competent, and effective. Complete lack of Ego (humility) with a fierce resolve to do what is best for the organization


Servant Leader

Transcending self-interest to serve others, the organization, and society. Operating for the fulfillment of their subordinates' goals and needs AND for the realization of the larger purpose or mission of their organization


Authentic Leader

Individuals who know and understand themselves, who espouse and act consistent with higher-order ethical values, and who empower and inspire others with their openness and authenticity. Pursue with passion, practice values, lead with hearts and heads, establish connected relationships, and demonstrate self-discipline


Interactive Leader

Leader who favors a consensual and collaborative process, and influence derives from relationships rather than formal authority


Charismatic Leader

Ability to motivate people to do more than they would normally do, despite obstacles and personal sacrifice. Create an atmosphere of change and push ideas that excite, stimulate, and drive people to work hard. Strong obsession with a vision for the future



Distinguished by their special ability to bring innovation and change by recognizing followers' needs and concerns, providing meaning, challenging people to look at old problems in new wars, and act as role models for the new values and behaviors



Clarify the role and task requirements of subordinates, initiate structure, provide appropriate rewards, and try to be considerate and meet the social needs of subordinates. Hardworking, tolerant, and fair-minded. Stress plans, budgets, and schedules. Conform to organizational norms and values.



Potential ability to influence the behaviors of others



- legitimate = power from a formal management position in an organization and the authority granted to it

- Reward = authority to bestow rewards on other people. Formal rewards like pay increases or promotions, and others like praise, attention, and recognition

- Coercive = Authority to punish or recommend punishment. Right to fire or demote employees



- Expert = Power resisting from a person's special knowledge or skill regarding the tasks being performed

- Referent = Individual's personal characteristics that command others' identification, respect, and admiration, so they wish to emulate that individual. One who brings the life into work.
