Peyronie disease
bowed penis (fibrous plaque in tunica albuginea)
- Makes intercourse difficult
- Painful in some instances
- Painful erections
Cryptorchidism
failure of the testes to descend during latter part of pregnancy, may be due to endocrine abnormalities, or small inguinal ring, treatment is surgery to reduce risk of testicular cancer
Spermatocele
cyst w/ fluid & sperm around testis, related to abnormality of seminiferous tubules
Hematocele
accumulation of blood which causes the scrotal skin to become dark red or purple
- trauma, bleeding disorder, testicular tumor
Hydrocele
excess fluid around testis, often congenital and can develop following an injury
Variocele
dilated vein in spermatic cord, due to lack of valves in veins, after puberty
Testicular torsion
testis rotates on spermatic cord after trauma or spontaneously, requires surgery or ?
hypertrophy from BPH occurs where on the prostate
transitional prostate (middle)
cancers develop in which part of the prostate
peripheral (bottom)
symptoms of enlarged prostate
urinary issues (Weak stream, Urgency, Dysuria,
Discharge) and kidney issues (elevated kidney markers)
Orchitis
infection/inflammation of the testes (mumps)
Acute bacterial prostatitis
subtype of UTI
- Impaired immune system, recent catheterization, urethral strictures
- Fever, chills, myalgia, arthralgia,
- Swollen, tender prostate via digital rectal exam
Chronic bacterial prostatitis
recurrent UTI
- Frequent urgent urination, dysuria, perineal discomfort and lower back pain
Chronic non bacterial prostatitis
Pelvic Pain Syndrome
- inflammatory: elevated leukocytes in prostatic fluid
- Noninflammatory
- No evidence of UTI
s/s Chronic non bacterial prostatitis
pain along the penis, testicles and scrotum, painful ejaculation, lower back pain, rectal pain, blood in urine/semen
hypospadias
urethral opening on the ventral surface, may be associated w/ ventral curvature of the penis. Treated with surgical reconstruction
Epispadias
urethral opening on the upper surface, proximal to the glans - incontinence may result. Treated with surgical reconstruction
Phimosis
tightening of the foreskin where it can not fully retract over the penis. (pathological in adult men - requires circumcision)
Paraphimosis
foreskin becomes trapped behind the glans penis - can constrict blood flow to the glans penis causing ischemia and necrosis (requires circumcision)
S/S of testicular cancer
There may be no symptoms. Symptoms that may occur can include:
Discomfort or pain in the testicle, or a feeling of heaviness in the scrotum
Dull ache in the back or lower abdomen
Hard painless mass, enlargement of a testicle or a change in the way it feels
Excess development of breast tissue (gynecomastia), however, this can occur normally in adolescent boys who do not have testicular cancer
Lump or swelling in either testicle
