What does GPhC stand for?
The General Pharmaceutical Council.
What is the role of the GPhC?
To protect patients and the public by ensuring that pharmacy professionals provide safe and effective care.
What does the GPhC regulate?
The education, training, and registration of pharmacy professionals, and the premises in which they work.
What are the GPhC Standards for Pharmacy Professionals?
They are expectations of knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors required from all pharmacy professionals and students to be considered fit to practise.
What does ‘fitness to practise’ mean?
A professional has the skills, knowledge, character, and health to do their job safely and effectively, and adheres to GPhC standards.
What must pharmacy professionals do as part of fitness to practise?
Make an annual declaration, notify the GPhC within 7 days of any issue that might impair fitness to practise, and complete continuing professional development (CPD) and revalidation.
What is an Interim Order (IO)?
A temporary restriction or suspension placed on a pharmacist’s practice by the Fitness to Practise Committee if urgent action is needed.
