Introduce Self
Verify patient identity
Explain procedure
Wash hands
Put on gloves
Placed patient in proper position
Draped properly
Put on sterile gloves
Lubricate catheter
Hold patient tissue with non-dominant hand
Use swab to clean periurethral tissue
Insert catheter at least one inch after seeing urine flashback
Inflate balloon using sterile water
Pull back on balloon until resistance is felt
Hang below level of bladder
