Increases bone density
How does weight bearing effect bone density?
Weight and gravity place pressure on the bones which draws calcium from the blood stream and deposits it in the bones.

What are the three types of joint?
Fibrous
Cartilaginous

What do joints connect?
Bone to bone
What is a fibrous joint?
“fixed” or “immoveable” joints, connected by fibrous connective tissue e.g. the skull
What is a Cartilaginous joint?
Bones are connected by cartilage. Eg. intervertebral discs
What is Cartilage?
Cartilage is a flexible connective tissue found in many
areas of the body
What is a Synovial joint?
Bones are not directly joined, instead have a synovial cavity containing lubricating synovial fluid eg. knees and hips
What is synovial fluid?
Synovial fluid is a viscous, yolk-like fluid found in the cavities of synovial joints with its yolk-like
consistency
What is the role of Synovial fluid?
Lubricate and nourish the joints
Increase shock absorption
Reduces friction between the articular cartilage of synovial joints during movement
Transports nutrients and waste
