Differences in gender socialisation lead to different tastes in reading and subject choice. Boys tend to read books about their own gender domain such as science where girls read more fiction leading to interests in English.

A

Some subjects are seen as boy or girl only subjects. Science and maths teachers are usually male hense when boys dominate the lab as if it was theirs. Pupils who attend same sex schools hold less stereotypical subject images and make less traditional subject choices

Peer pressure

A

Boys tend to opt out of dance and mystic because their peers will see it outside of the gender domain and apply negative pressure. Pupils see sports as male dominated so females who do this are labelled as butch or gay.
