A
Destructive waves git against the coastline and erode a line of weakness or crack in the rock.

A
The crack is eventually widened by corrasion, attrition, solution and hydrualic action to form a sea cave.

A
Waves continue to erode the inside of the cave until they eventually break through the “back wall” to form an arch.

A
Waves continue to attack the base of the arch putting pressure on the roof. eventually over time this roof collapses as it cannot support its weight.

A
This leaves a tall isolated stack left behind which is subject to weathering and increased erosion.
