Tourists are attracted to the cairngorms national park for its natural scenery which includes ancient forests, vast mountains with glacial features, rivers and lochs.

Pastoral farming is possible on the valley floors of the cairngorms as cattle can graze as the grass is better quality due to fertile soils on the flat land.

It is also often too steep on the slopes of the cairngorms for farm equipment.

Sheep farming is the most common type of farming in the cairngorms becuase sheep are hardy and can survive the cold, harsh enviroments on upper slopes of the v-shaped valleys.

Sheep can also withstand the could tempratures and lack of sunshine present.
