Gatsby borrowed a boat and introduced himself to Dan Coady, who is a very wealthy and lived a lifestyle of going to wild parties and drinking excessively
Coady takes on Gatsby as his assistant as he is impressed by his intelligence and determination
He changes his name to Jay Gatsby
Daisy comes into his life when he is a soldier stationed in Louisville
Gatsby invites Daisy and Tom to the next party but she is repulsed by the party
When Tom criticises the party, Daisy defends it nonetheless, saying that the people at the party are more interesting than the people she comes into contact w
She also defends Gatsby, saying he has made his own money
Gatsby talks to Nick once all the other guests have left and is miserable because he thinks Daisy didn’t have a good time
