Visual Guidance

Use of a demonstration or video analysis to show learners the correct technique of a skill.

Pros:
- build a mental picture of the skill
- can be used on a large group of learners
- demonstrations good for learners in cognitive stage
- video analysis good for learners in the autonomous stage

Cons:
- demonstration has to be accurate
- leaners have to pay attention

A

Description of the skill that is being learned.

Pros:
- can be given during performance
- can address a large group of learners
- can use positive/negative reinforcement

Cons:
- has to be clear and concise
- may need to be used alongside other types of guidance
- needs to be simple to understand
- more relevant to cognitive/associative learners

Manual Guidance

A

Physically manipulating a performer as they are learning a skill.

Pros:
- increases proprioception
- develops kinaesthesia
- corrects erros

Cons:
- can become reliant on it
- if physically manipulated into the wrong position then learner will develop kinaesthesia for the incorrect technique

A

Using mechanical aids to physically manipulate a learner into the correct position.

Pros:
- increased safety while learning dangerous skills
- increased confidence
- develop kinaesthesia
- helps to provide accuracy

Cons:
- can become reliant on it
