What does CDM stand for?
Construction Design Management
What is the aim of the CDM?
Regulations put in place to ensure all H&S and risk is put in place pre-contract and post-contract.
To ensure H&S issues are considered throughout the lifecycle of a project so that risk of harm is reduced.
Ensures all projects are designed in accordance with H&S in mind.
Ensures all risks during the construction process are mitigated correctly.
Why is CDM different to any other H&S regulation?
- It is specific to construction and design.
- Specific to the UK.
- Specifying the duties of each of the parties.
When is a project notifiable?
When the project is more than 500 person days in duration, or more than 30 working days with 20 workers at any one time.
What is the document called?
F10 notification of construction
Who notifies HSE of the project?
It is the Client’s duty to submit the F10, but in reality they often instruct others to do it e.g. the Principal Contractor.
Who is the HSE and what is their role?
Health & Safety Executive - Their role is to prevent work related death, injury, and ill-health.
They can inspect site unannounced and take pictures, issue verbal and written advice, can impose sanctions such as stop and improvement notices.
