Heart Flashcards
(8 cards)
Cardiac output
The amount of blood ejected from the left ventricle into the aorta per minute
Stroke volume
The amount of blood ejected by a ventricle during each systole
End diastolic volume
The amount of blood that enters a ventricle during each diastole
End systolic volume
The volume of blood still left in a ventricle following its systole
Frank-Starlings Law of the heart
The length of the cardiac muscle fibers determines the force of the contraction
Degree of stretch of the cardiac muscle just before they contract
Pre-load
Back pressure exerted by arterial blood for the ventricles to overcome
After-load
The extrinsic factor that increases contractility or increases SV and is independent of muscle stretch and EDV
Contractility
