Hepatitis Flashcards
Two types of Hepatitis that have ABRUPT onset (15-50,60 day onset), are not chronic and can be transmitted oral-fecal?
HepA & HepE
The difference between HepA & HepE?
There is no vaccine for HepE.
Blood borne types of Hepatitis?
HepB, HepC..also HepD
This form of Hepatitis can be transmitted through percutaneous or mucosal contact with infectious blood.
HepD
Incubation for HepA
15-50 days
Incubation for HepB
45-160 days
Incubation for HepC
14-180 days
Incubation for HepD
Unknown
Incubation for HepE
15-60 days
These two types of Hepatitis can be chronic?
HepB & HepC
HepB is higher in children
This virus can cause a liver infection that if chronic can become cancerous. The virus is transmitted from person to person through blood, semen or other body fluids, it is transmitted via sexual contact, sharing of needles, mother to child, and needle stick Sx: jaundice, poor appetite, nausea/vomiting weakness, fever, dark urine, right upper quadrant (RUQ) pain.
HepB
These two types of Hepatitis can cause liver cancer.
HepB & HepC (bloodborne)
TX for ACUTE Hepatitis B
Antivirals:
- Most adults clear the infection without them
- Children usually need treatment
Which Hepatitis viruses have vaccinations?
HepA & HepB
no cure exists for hepatitis B, but a vaccine can prevent the disease; alcohol should be avoided as it can increase liver damage
HBSAg vs Anti-HBc
Surface antigen (HBSAg) test detects active virus which can be transmitted VERSUS Core antigen (anti-HBc) detects patients who have an HBV infection
