Hormones during labour Flashcards
(8 cards)
What is labour
regular, coordinated muscular contractions of the uterus which leads to effacement (thinning) and dilation of cervix
followed by expulsive contraction, birth of baby and placenta
what happens to myometrium cells during labour?
change structure so they can contract greater
Cervical changes during labour
cervix ripens and due to its stretching-releases oxytocin from posterior pituitary gland
increases uterine activity and labour begins
what does CRH-Corticotrophin releasing do during labour
under influence of oxytocin it binds to receptors and promotes uterine contraction
what does Prostaglandis during labour
stimulates smooth muscle fibres to contact and increase calcium levels
what does Oxytocin do during labour
released during ripening of the cervix, release of protaglandis
what does Oestrogen do during labour
Facilitates myometrium contractions
What does progesterone do during labour
Progesterone decreases, oestrogen rises and increased oestrogen to progesterone ratio so oestrogen can dominate
