What does the cornea do?
Light passes through it and the cornea begins to focus the light onto the rear of the eye
What does the lens do?
It is the major focusing structure
What does the ciliary body do?
It holds the lens in place by suspending ligaments
What does the ciliary muscle do?
It contracts the muscles to change the shape of the lens
what does the pupil do?
Located between the cornea and lens, it controls the amount of light entering the eye
What is the aqueous humor?
It is the transparent zone
What does the retina contain?
3 million cones and one billion rods
What does the cones do?
It detects color
What does the rods do?
It detects light and dark
What does the fovea do?
It focuses images
What does the optic nerve do?
It transmits visual impulses directly to the brain
What does it mean if someone is near sighting?
There point of focus lies in front of the fovea
What does it mean if someone is far sighted?
There point of focus lies behind the fovea
